NICU: Day 61

Headed up to Jackson for my Wednesday visit with David.  He's still on the high flow, but I could tell that he was struggling some.  He's on between 50-65% oxygen.  This is a definite increase from when we first started yesterday morning.  His respiratory rate was also a little elevated most of the day.  Both of these things are a little disheartening because it can show that he is tiring out and will not be able to stay stable on the high flow.  I want him to be able to get over this hump and to move forward with his respiratory needs.  Not being able to move forward respiratory-wise is hindering further development progress, such as trying bottle feeding and moving to a larger crib.
In positive news, he is continuing to grow well....his weight is up to 5 pounds and 4 ounces.  They have increased his feedings 44 cc, which equals about 11.7 ounces a day.  He continues to tolerate these well, which is great.  The doctor on this rotation says he is growing well and he's expecting him to continue to do well.

I have been getting a little discouraged about our lack of progress lately.  I want to keep moving forward, and making consistent progress with all of our issues.  So to remind myself of how far we have come, the pictures below show a good timeline of where we started....

I am so very grateful for how far we've come, but I am also very aware of how much further we have to go.... Please pray that David breathes well, so they can decrease his oxygen and pressures; the eyes to improve and the Plus disease to go away; the PDA to close; and for there to be no damage from the brain bleed or further swelling to the brain.
