The surgery went very well for the most part. After telling us that we would have to spend a minimum of 1 night in the hospital, maybe 2, they told us the morning of the surgery that we could probably go home that afternoon. We were one of the first in line for surgery, and by 8:30 it was all over and he did well. He did not have to stay on the ventilator for an extended period at all, although he did require a little bit of support oxygen via nasal cannula because it took him a minute to get his oxygen saturation up when he was coming off of anesthesia.
Because of this, they decided to admit us. At first I was disappointed, but looking back I'm glad they did b/c David did NOT do well coming off the anesthesia. He was very very grumpy, and it was nice to have some nurse support as opposed to driving in the car! After a few hours of being admitted, they let us go and we were home by 7. It was a long day, but it went well, and I'm glad to have it all behind us.
