NICU: Day 107

David has been doing very well.  He's very stable at 100 cc of oxygen and is eating and gaining weight well...Saturday he was 8 pounds!!   The doctors have said that the hernia is no longer there and will not require surgical repair.  They also told us on Saturday that we will no longer be trying to wean David's oxygen.  The plan is to send him home on 100cc of oxygen, assuming he remains stable for the next week.

Our current plan is to "room in" at the hospital on Thursday night.  When you room in, you are basically spending the night with the baby in a hospital room that is connected to the NICU.  It allows the parents to get comfortable taking care of the baby and his equipment, while still having the 'safety net' of the NICU nurses.  While I am looking forward to trying it out, it sounds like a TERRIBLE nights sleep!!  Friday morning we will take infant CPR and try to do our car seat test.  We will spend the weekend in the hospital, and then hopefully and God-willing, will be discharged HOME on Monday!!

Its all very exciting and I cannot wait for us to all be home together.  While the NICU has become my normal, I am looking forward to creating a new normal as a family at home.  We have been working in overdrive trying to get the nursery as ready as possible and have the house semi-organized.  There are still some last minute things to purchase, wash, and assemble, but we will get them done.

Please pray that our journey toward home next week is uninterrupted and smooth.  I want to be sure that I am bringing home the healthiest David that he can be.  Now, I will leave you with some fabulous pictures of my sweet chubblet of a baby boy!

 What's up, Dad?
 Checking each other out

He's very expressive....this face cracks me up!  I feel like we were about to start a conversation!
I think he was yawning, but it looks like he may just be giving a big, hearty laugh!
