NICU: Week 10/Day 72

This Saturday marked our 10th week and Sunday was our 72nd day in the NICU.  I am hopeful that we have maybe gotten to our halfway marker in our stay.   David turned 36 weeks on Friday.  The doctors have different expectations of his development now, because 36 weeks is considered "term".  He is expected to sat his oxygen higher, quit dropping his heart rate, and just have better overall respiratory function.  He's doing most of those things, and I know he is just trying his very best!  We did lots of kangaroo care this weekend, and he tolerated it very well most of the time.  Overall, it was a great weekend together and I pray his progress continues through the week!

The lasix has really helped his fluid, but the nurse did tell me that they usually do not let this be regular medication.  Hopefully he can improve and better maintain his fluid when they bring him off the medicine.  When I left this afternoon, he was at 45% oxygen at 3 liters.  He was still around 5 pounds and 8 to 9 ounces...my big boy has moved up to a size 1 diaper and has a larger blood pressure cuff.  I also noticed that his sweet eyelashes have started growing.  David is improving slowly and I could not be more proud of my guy!

We do have quite a big week ahead of us.... Tomorrow he will have another heart echo to check the status of his PDA, as well as another eye exam to see how the ROP and Plus disease has progressed.  Tuesday will be his 4th head ultrasound to monitor the status of his bleeds.  We can only pray hard that all of these things have improved and have faith that God will send us good news.  Thank you again for all of the prayers and love, I know we could not do it without you!
